[Alfa Engine]
Whether it is the latest generation Twin Spark 16V, a direct injection 2.0 JTS or a V6 24-valve, car enthusiasts can always count on an Alfa Romeo engine.

Our innovative architecture gives a tremendous amount of power and elasticity even at low speeds, and performance in terms of torque and output are amongst the best in every category because of our complete range of engine capacities.
JTS
Entirely redesigned and the first of a new generation of engines, the JTS (Jet Thrust Stoichiometric) engine - the latest high pressure, direct injection petrol system, is one of the latest innovations from Alfa Romeo. The result is a leap forward in terms of performance, while engine capacity and fuel consumption remain unchanged.

2.2 JTS 2198cc
185bhp (136 kW) at 6500rpm
Peak torque 230Nm (23.4kgm) at 4500 rpm

3.2 JTS
3195cc
260bhp (191 kW) at 6200rpm
Peak torque 322Nm (32.8kgm) at 4500 rpm

The 2.2 and 3.2 JTS engines are available in the Alfa 159, Alfa Brera and Alfa Spider
TWIN SPARK ENGINE
The chief qualities of the Twin Spark engines include technology, performance, reliability and environmental compatibility. Twin Spark means there are two spark plugs for each cylinder. The double ignition improves fuel burn, while benefitting engine yield, reducing fuel consumption and lowering emissions.

This sparkling generous engine, with a smooth power delivery, responds promptly and is easy to control. There are four different versions, which all offer excellent combustion control and tremendous elasticity. The revolutionary Twin Spark engine embodies all the motor-racing experiences of Alfa Romeo.

1.6 Twin Spark 16V
Capacity: 1598cc
Max. Power Output: 120bhp at 6200rpm
Peak Torque: 146Nm at 4200rpm
Top Speed: 195km/h
Acceleration from 0 to 100km/h: 10.6secs

2.0 Twin Spark 16V
Capacity: 1970cc
Max. Power Output: 150bhp at 6300rpm
Peak Torque: 181Nm at 3800rpm
Top Speed: 208km/h
Acceleration from 0 to 100km/h: 9.3secs
V6 24V ENGINE
The V6 24V is all about power that will take you by surprise. The full power of this 6-cylinder engine is staggering, but so is its fluidity. Clearly designed for high performances, the V6 24 is decisive, fluid and solid at all speeds, making it the very top of its category.

With an engine block and cylinder head made entirely of light alloy, multi-valve timing and V6 architecture, this is a powerful engine with all the qualities and potential of the 2.5 V6 24V. There are also two camshafts for each cylinder head and four valves per cylinder.

3.0 V6 24V
Capacity: 2959cc
Max. Power Output: 220bhp at 6300rpm
Peak Torque: 265Nm at 5000rpm
Top Speed: 236km/h
Acceleration from 0 to 100km/h: 8.6secs

Compared to the 3-litre version, this engine offers greater power, following an overhaul of the timing, fuel supply and electronics systems. Changes to the crankshaft increased the capacity to 3.2 litres, lengthening the stroke to 78 mm.

This was done to obtain outstanding performance, high peaks of power output and torque, and regular, smooth delivery even at low speeds. Additional changes include - upgrading the cooling system, reinforcing the transmission with new axle-shafts, and tuning the exhaust ducts to a new timing system.

3.2 V6 24V
Capacity: 3179cc
Max. Power Output: 250bhp at 6200rpm
Peak Torque: 300Nm at 4800rpm
Top Speed: 250km/h
Acceleration from 0 to 100km/h: 6.3secs
MULTIAIR TECHNOLOGY
Developed and patented by Fiat Powertrain Technologies, the revolutionary MultiAir system is an innovative hydro-electric system for operating the engine’s intake valves. It allows greater flexibility in the control of the influx of air into the engine, compared to mechanical timing systems.

Thus, different valve opening and closing strategies can be employed to optimise the process of combustion. This results in 10% more power and 10% greater fuel efficiency as compared to a traditional petrol engine with the same displacement. Driving experience is also greatly enhanced as the improved dynamics of the system and constant air pressure upstream of the valves eliminate any delay in torque response.

Main advantages:
  • An increase in maximum power output from 10%-35% with a cam profile designed for high performance
  • Up to 15% more torque in the low rev range thanks to direct control of valve lift
  • Up to 12% faster pick-up thanks to the high pressure of air mass
  • Up to 10% reduction in fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions thanks to the elimination of pumping loss.
