Passive Safety

Alfa Romeo ensures the highest levels of handling, roadholding and stability in an effort to minimize the risk of an impact. If an impact proves unavoidable however, the rigidity of the bodyshell, will provide the protection needed by the car's occupants. This is achieved through the bodyshell's gradual deformability, obtained using ultra-high strength steels that are completely zinc-plated for resistance over time.

A rigid bodyshell with controlled energy absorption is still not enough. It needs to be accompanied by components that have been tested to stringent internal Alfa Romeo standards. Every component of an Alfa Romeo is designed to ensure maximum protection, by using sophisticated, light materials such as magnesium and aluminum alloys, developed in collaboration with international racing engineering workshops.

The passenger restraint systems, such as safety belts with pre-tensioners and load-limiters, and front, side and window airbags, have been tested according to strict standards, to ensure state-of-the-art protection in Alfa Romeo cars. There is also the Fire Prevention System, which interrupts the flow of fuel in the event of an impact, minimizing the risk of fire even in particularly serious collisions.

Air Bags

Each model is equipped with a comprehensive system of airbags, which is controlled by a single unit, and protects the driver and passenger from impact. Besides the full range of front and side airbags, there is now the new self-supporting drop-down window airbag, which minimizes injury to the head, shoulder and arm in the even of a broken window.

FPS includes an inertia switch that interrupts fuel delivery in the event of a collision, minimizing the risk of fire.
